The Yellow Effect was born from something deeply personal – an unshakable calling shared by three people (Laura, Hannah and Nicolette) who have dedicated their lives to caring for others. As the three directors behind this company, we bring with us a collective 50+ years of experience in the disability sector. But beyond the years and qualifications, this is a story of love, legacy, and the belief that true care comes from the heart.

At the very core of our mission is a man who shaped everything we believe in—our father and grandfather, Alan. A man who lived with a disability but never once saw it as a limitation. In fact, he lived his life as though no barriers existed. Alan’s resilience, his humour, his tenderness, and his unshakable optimism made him one of the most inspiring people we’ve ever known. To everyone he met, he was a light. Alan showed us that strength and softness could exist together—and that disability was never a definition of worth.
Alan’s recent passing left an enormous space in our world, but it also fuelled the fire behind The Yellow Effect. We carry his legacy with us in everything we do. His story is woven into the care we provide, the respect we show, and the compassion we lead with. Alan taught us that making someone feel seen, heard, and valued is the most powerful impact you can have – and we honour him by doing exactly that for every person who walks through our doors.
What makes this legacy even more special is that Alan’s favourite colour was yellow.
To him, yellow was more than just a colour—it was a feeling. It was joy, warmth, light, hope. It was the way he made people feel, even on their darkest days. So, when it came time to name this company, there was no question: yellow had to be at the centre. Not just in name, but in everything we do.
